Makarfi, Obi, Peter Obi , Secondus, others sack Sheriff

There is currently a wave of confusion in Port Harcourt as former acting chairman of the peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Uche Secondus and some party stalwarts sack the party chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff.
According to reports coming from Port Harcourt, Mr. Secondus and some senior angry party members including governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who is also  the chairman of the convention planning committee rejected the suspension.
They declared the convention open at the Port Harcourt stadium.
The declaration is coming barely minutes after the chairman of Modu Sheriff suspended the exercise due to ongoing court cases against the party.
In spite of the National Chairman calling off National Convention, senior party members continued with exercise in Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, other party members are meeting in Abuja for a separate convention.
National Chairman of PDP Modu Sheriff had earlier announced suspension of the party's National Convention in Port Harcourt till all court cases are resolved.
Former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi has emerged new Caretaker Chairman after Sheriff was removed.
Sen Ben Obi is new deputy chairman.
A former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, was also appointed interim secretary of the party.

The caretaker committee will pilot the affairs of the party for three months, our sources said.
Convention is going ahead.
Mr Sheriff had predicated his declaration on the series of court cases instituted against the holding of the convention.
Interestingly, the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] has stated that it will not observe election into certain offices of the party.
The affected offices include that of the National Chairman, National Legal Adviser, Auditor, etc, sequel to a court judgment.
Few minutes ago, the master of ceremony invited the National Chairman of the party to address the convention only to immediately backtrack and invite the Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.
According to our correspondent, it is illegal and reckless for the PDP to purport to proceed with the convention.
That is because a court of competent jurisdiction has given an order stopping the convention and or the election of certain officers of the party.
