Fear as Anambra community crisis deepens …You can't impose leadership on us -Otoko Chairman warns

Palpable fear has allegedly gripped the people of Otoko Isuaniocha Community, Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State, as the intra communal crisis in the area has reportedly deepened just as the caretaker committee chairman for Peace in the area who was appointed by the daughters and inlaws, (Umuada/ Nwadiani) Donatus Okeke, yesterday warned that nobody would impose leadership on the people at this time of democracy which everybody has been enjoying.

Okeke who was reacting to the accusation against the police in the state by Chief  Anthony Onyeagolu that the police were bias in their investigation on the leadership crisis rocking the community urged the Onyeagolu family to leave the police alone to perform their function.

He urged Governor Willie Obiano to intervene before the situation gets out of hand alleging that the family has sold off some of the community economic natural inheritance.

To buttress his point he said, "#21.5million worth of economic trees located at Ofia-ori forest that included iroko and mahogany were cut, hewed and sold off by them and they want to head us
for life".

"We cannot be slaves to them because they want to get grip of the chairmanship of Otoko for life instead of the position to be rotational as it is contained in the constitution of the land.

They rely on their son based in Ghana who is their financier in all the atrocities being committed by the family all aimed at gripping the chairmanship post that is not their birth right” he stated.

Their Ghana based brother wants the former chairman that is his brother, Paulinus Onyeagolu, who resigned after three years instead of four years to come back and we said no since he personally tendered his resignation letter and that is part of the crises now."

It would be recalled that the Commander of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, SACS, of the Anambra state police command, Mr Bako Gado had warned the people of Otoko Isuaniocha community to make peace in their own interest or face the wrath of the law.

He was reacting to the allegation in which one Chief Anthony Onyeagolu accused the police in the state of extorting money from detained Otoko people over the leadership crisis there and regretted that some enemies of progress in the community that are self-centered should continue to hold the community hostage by fermenting trouble aimed at enriching themselves as they thrive in crises at the detriment of innocent people warning that the police would not allow that to continue unabated.

To buttress his point he said that "when we were doing their case one of them who is based in Ghana came down and took the case file to Abuja"

"The problem in the area is leadership and not land issue and we did
not extort money from anybody as they alleged", the Commander stated .
