ENUGU ASSEMBLY ORDERS FOR RELOCATION OF KENYATTA BUILDING MATERIALS MARKET.

Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly yesterday directed that the Enugu Building Materials Market, at Kenyatta Market, Enugu  should be relocated to its new permanent site at Ugwuaji, Enugu along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

Deliberating on a motion of public importance brought on the floor of the House by the member representing Nkanu West Constituency, Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu and seven other, the House unanimously resolved that the building materials market constituted nuisance and obstruction and therefore should be relocated.

Aniagu averred that though the building material is important because of its uses, it should be relocated because of the risk to lives, traffic gridlock as well as the defacing of the environment.

"There is no gain saying the fact that the negative effects of a building material market located within the city centre cannot be over-emphasized.  It has been a recurring decimal of the obstruction of roads, insecurity, risk of loss of lives, defacing of the beauty of the environment, theft, etc," he posited.

Aniagu pointed out that the First Phase of the permanent site had been completed for about seven months now and wondered why traders have not moved to the market to decongest Kenyatta Market.

Following the way Aniagu marshaled his points for the need for the relocation, members therefore directed that the ministries of Environment, Commerce and Industry as well as Capital Territory Development Authority move the market within 30 days.

The House also directed that the ministries should liaise with Enugu South Local Government Council where the new permanent site is located to ensure that the directive is complied with within the stipulated time.

Meanwhile, the House, during the plenary session, approved the appointment of two more Special Advisers for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.The Special Advisers are for security and Economic Affairs.

The secretary to the State Government, SSG, Elder Gabriel Ajah, tabled the letter for the appointments of the two special advisers.
