UNIZIK Convocation : Obiano makes a case for increased funding of education in the Country

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has made a passionate appeal from all governments to increase funding of the Education sector.
He made the call at the tenth Convocation Lecture of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The lecture which is the intellectual aspect of the convocation, had the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission, Professor Julius Okojie as the guest lecturer, who lectured on the Topic Education: Agent of Change for National Renaissance and Development.
Describing education as one the present administration's enablers, which informed the expedience of injecting more funds into the sector, Governor Obiano said he is working very hard to ensure that the State is always in the fore front in all sectors including education.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, the Governor made it clear that his administration is currently exploiting ways to improve the IGR base of the State through the new POS process, appreciating the University's management for its efforts at ensuring that quality graduates are produced.

The Governor added that the State government is willing to continue partnering the Institution to see how to further improve.

The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Joseph Ahaneku, in an address of welcome, said that it is not without reason that convocation ceremonies start with convocation lectures, hence the need to pick lecture topics germane to the challenges of society and to select appropriate resource persons as guest lecturer.

Earlier, the Chairman on the occasion and the Erstwhile Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Chief Simon Okeke pointed out that learning which is a continuous process should always be appreciated and accorded its due right of place.

The lecture opens up a week long of activities for the Convocation with grand finale on coming up this friday.
