Senator Theodore Orji representing Abia Central district, has described as " malicious and fabricated", an on-line media report that he was arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over N200 billion fraud.
According to the on- line report which was trending on its website Thursday, the ex- Governor was allegedly quizzed last week and currently detained at EFCC headquarters Abuja for allegedly diverting N200 billion Abia funds as well as owning 400 houses with his son in Dubai.
But in a swift reaction through his Media Adviser, Mr. Don Norman Obinna, the Senator said the report was a deliberate falsehood fabricated by his detractors to blackmail him .
Orji explained that the records of his stewardship as Abia Governor were intact , wondering why mischief makers would want to tarnish his image by peddling such untenable rumous.
He, therefore, threatened legal action against the publisher of the on- line blog, should he fail to apologise for the damages within 24 hours.
The statement read in part: “We not only find this baseless piece of misinformation insulting the office and person of Senator T.A Orji but also a calculated attempt by disgruntled politicians to manipulate the psyche of the general public as the alleged arrest and detention of Sen. Orji only exists in the mind of the writer and his frustrated sponsors.
“We therefore give the publisher, the next one hour to step down the misleading information which defied all journalistic principles with unreserved apologies published on all viable online portals and three national newspapers or face legal action.”
