Police recruitment: Put national interest first, President Buhari warns

Following the commencement of the recruitment of 10,000 officers into various cadres of the Nigeria Police Force,
President Muhammadu Buhari, has charged authorities of the Force to put national interest first so that it will be in line with the reforms agenda being pursued by his government.
The president gave the charge at the ceremonial parade marking the grand finale of the 2016 Nigeria Police Week in Abuja, yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission (PSC) begun the recruitment of 10,000 officers into the force, yesterday, April 1.
The website portal for the recruitment exercise was opened yesterday.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mike Mbama Okiro, however, warned the staff of the Commission who will be involved in the screening of candidates to avoid any act that will compromise the integrity of the exercise.
Represented by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Danbazau, at the Ceremonial Parade, President Buhari further said that his government has initiated actions aimed at giving effect to the concept of citizen’s led policing and strengthening the technical intelligence capacity of the service as a strategic national approach towards addressing the challenge of highly organized crime on a sustainable basis.
“No nation thrives without security, and neither can a nation lay claim to security without an efficient policing service. Consequently, this administration shall continue to support initiative that will guarantee the reform and modernization of the Nigeria Police Force.
Earlier, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, warned criminals to be weary of the wind of change blowing in the Nigeria Police Force .
