Obi rejoins APGA as Oye sees hope on Buhari’s presidency

There appears to be a rebound for the All Progressives Grand Alliance, as the former governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi, who dumped the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014 may  return  to   the party.

This was disclosed yesterday by the Chairman APGA Reconciliation Committee and a former commissioner  for Information under Obi, Chief Maja Umeh at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka , Anambra state .

Maja said plans are underway by stakeholders in the State to bring back  the former governor to the party gave him opportunity to rule the state for eight years.

Umeh's revelation was coming barely  24 hours after Obi stated in a local radio in the state that he had a commitment to ensure that his successor, Governor Willie Obiano, would succeed.

He said “I will be the first to be blamed if Governor Obiano fails because I was the person that presented him to the people of the state. So I will make sure that he succeeds"

The former governor had on October7, 2014 defected to PDP  at his Onitsha residence in the presence of top ranking members of the party in the country.

Obi's   posters are currently  adorning  every nook and cranny of the state,  projecting  him as the PDP candidate for Anambra central senatorial rerun election.

The rerun poll was on  was to have held on March1,2016 but  postponed indefinitely by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

But  the former Commissioner said Bishops and traditional rulers in the state were making frantic efforts to bring Obi back to APGA, stressing that the purpose was to bring genuine reconciliation to the party as well as  between Obi and Obiano.

Umeh  who said it was not within the purview of his assignment to reconcile party members, who had joined other parties, said however it was proper to bring Obi back to APGA to beef up the party for the battle ahead.

He said “it’s not within my purview to reconcile those who had left APGA, but it is proper to bring Obi back to our party so that we can tap his experience. He (Obi) has shown demonstrable statesmanship and support for governor Obiano, it’s proper to bring him back to APGA. I know that the clergy and our royal fathers are working hard to achieve this. And I don’t think it’s a difficult task to achieve ".

However, Obi's confidant and also a former Information Commissioner for Information , Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike denied that Obi was on his way back to APGA, saying that he has gone to a national party and has nothing to do with a regional party.

Meanwhile, the national chairman of Chief Victor Oye on Thursday expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari would deliver to his election promise of bring positive change to the country.

Oye described the seeming hardship now as the “storm before the calm”
He called for the understanding of Nigerians in the face of the present situation, saying “I see hope”

Oye observed that with the measures being taken by government, things would soon get better.

He said: “Every problem has an expiry date. I believe that before the end of this year, things will begin to normalize.
“What the government is trying to do is to cut wastes and Nigerians are already beginning to see the result going by the savings already made.

“Nigerians can see that the federal government has the courage to do semblance of what is right and what is happening in the country shows that there is no hiding place for any corrupt politician.

“We should also appreciate the fact that God chose President Muhammadu Buhari for Nigerians and he has a purpose for doing that.”
