Igbo monarchs blast South-East governors for docility over herdsmen rampage

Traditional rulers from the South East, have lambasted Governors in the zone for their docility and taciturnity over the atrocities of Fulani herdsmen rampaging communities in the zone.

Chairman of South East traditional rulers council, HRM Eze Eberechi Dick who addressed a press conference yesterday in Umuahia over the invasion of Uzouwani community in Enugu State expressed shock at the inaction of the governors and political leaders from the zone over the menace of herdsmen in South East.

His words: " Let them  stand up now and speak up let the masses hear their voice. This matter has gone out of hands and communities can't do anything without the Governors".

The monarch who strongly condemned the mindless killing of hapless Uzouwani folks , called on the Federal Government to call the herdsmen to order , saying that they pose serious security threat to Nigeria.

He urged the Federal Government to immediately intervene and halt the violent rampage by herdsmen across the country, adding that the ugly development has assumed a dangerous dimension.

  The traditional ruler also tasked President Muhammadu Buhari, to quickly fish out those behind the invasion of Enugu community and bring them and their sponsors to book.

Eze Dick also lambasted  security operatives in the South East for their bias and selective neglect in handling herdsmen menace.

He noted that the security men were alerted ahead of time about the recent attack but failed to defend the hapless villagers , warning them against the grave implications of such selective neglect.


The monarch further noted that Nigeria as a country is currently grappling with many security issues, and might not survive another crisis as being invited by the murderous herdsmen.

He described the trend as a huge threat to the peace and unity of the country and called on all traditional rulers in the country to rise up and assist the government to checkmate the trend before it degenerates into a national crisis.

He commiserated with the families who lost their loved ones in the midnight carnage and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the painful  lost, while calling for vigilance among communities in the South  East.
