Unknown gunmen last night shot and killed an Igbo trader, Mr Augustine Nmuonmue, aka Coaster, in his No 2 Tsav Close GRA extension Gboko residence in Gboko town, Benue State.
Eyewitness account revealed that the deceased who was trailed to his home while returning from the market was gunned down by the assassins on arrival at his residence at about 7pm.
The killing of Mr Coaster barely three days after that of a youth leader in the area, Msughter Tyavyar, who was gruesomely murdered by yet to be identified gunmen in the same Gboko town is beginning to spark fears in the residents, The AUTHORITY on Sunday gathered.
Some residents who spoke to The AUTHORITY on Sunday described the development as worrisome. Mr Tyover Orya, a resident, expressed worry that the killings were becoming too common, saying, such was beginning to make the people live in fear.
He charged security agencies to intensify surveillance in Gboko and other parts of the state and put an end to such killings. He also charged the police to ensure that the perpetrators of this killings were arrested and made to face the law.
Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Command, ASP Moses Yamu, in a chat with The AUTHORITY on Sunday confirmed the killing. He further stated that full scale investigation into the matter had already commenced, assuring that the culprit would be brought to book.
