Gov. Obiano Commissions Onitsha Shoprite by Okechukwu Anarado

Onitsha, the populous business capital of Anambra State is upbeat in anticipation of the launch of an expansive ultra modern shopping mall by Chief Willie Obiano, the Governor of Anambra State.

The introduction of Shoprite into the array of market clusters that characterize ancient metropolitan Onitsha further entrenches the premiership of the city in commerce South East of Nigeria. The actualization of this project will further give impetus to Chief Obiano’s commitment to his creed to continue, complete and commission viable projects initiated by the immediate past APGA government in the state.
When the past administration started out to bring Shoprite to the state, Anambra people were most eager to participate in the mode of buying and selling that mark the outfit as an acceptable brand in commerce across the globe. This expectation was however unattained by 17th March, 2014 when Chief Willie Obiano assumed office as Governor of the state.
The Onitsha Shoprite was among the many uncompleted projects which Chief Obiano inherited from Chief Obi. The project is a Public Private Partnership venture with the state posting a prime shareholding. It ranks among the likes of Awka Shopping Mall at the former site of Ikenga Hotel, Awka; the Mall at Nkwo Nnewi Triangle, and the Agulu Lake Resorts. These form part of the ongoing physical infrastructure beside roads which Governor Obiano inherited from his predecessor, and which in keeping with his contract with the people, he strives to accomplish. He does this despite the waning resources accruable to the state as a result of dwindling national economy predicated on the unprecedented fall of oil price in the international market.
Chief Willie Obiano’s completion and commissioning of Shoprite, Onitsha is reassuring of his consistency in living his talk on issues concerning good governance and development of Anambra State. It helps to dull the perverse speculations of killjoy cynics of the governor’s administration who for whatever cause opt for uncanny measures towards ambushing the loyalty and warmth existing between Ndi-Anambra and their governor; a governor whose security consciousness has afforded the people unparalleled safety and an environment to thrive in the phase of daunting national economic challenges.
As the people of Anambra heartily hail their Governor for doing more with less in his mode of governance, the city of Onitsha and indeed the entire state will surely savour the nuances of Shoprite’s vivacious entry into the commercial fray in the state.
