APGA:Maxi Okwu faction adopts Obi for senate

A faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) led by Chief Maxi Okwu has adopted Chief Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra state as its candidate in the yet to be scheduled Anambra Central Senatorial rerun election.

 The chairman of the faction in the state Chief Shadrack Anakwue this afternoon declared the position of the group during a Town Hall meeting in Awka attended by stakeholders in the 21 local government areas of the state.

 But the former Governor , Mr  Peter Obi rather said that he joined the race to the senate because of the pressure mounted on him by stakeholders.

 Obi who reminded the audience that he fulfilled all his campaign promises as a governor including handing over to another APGA government, said that the reality is that a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator will be in the best interest of the people.

 "I am into this race because of the pressure mounted on me by stakeholders in spite of my initial position not to contest any election again. However a leader must be a good listener and not a Mr know all." The former governor stressed.

 Anakwue continuing said their support for Obi was in view of the sterling qualities and achievements of the former governor during his eight years in office.

 "We have thoroughly evaluated options available to us candidates for Anambra Central senatorial position and realised that if given the opportunity to serve as a senator Chief Peter Obi will do more for the people of the zone,"he said.

 The APGA chieftain described Obi as a result oriented, tested,sselfless and reliable leader who will get the best for his people anywhere.

 Anakwue therefore called on the people of Anambra to put sentiments, emotions and political difference and lend their support for Obi.

 In his remark,  Chief JoeMartins Uzodike, former Commissioner of Information in the state said Obi as a senator will make Anambra Central the most fortunate zone in the country.


 The Anambra Central Senatorial position became vacant following series of litigation which nullified the election of  Mrs Uche Ekwunife of PDP and stalled the rerun election earlier scheduled by INEC for March 5.
