Abandoned 2nd Niger Bridge: Obi weeps, says it is catastrophic for Ndigbo

Former Governor Peter Obi yesterday literally wept over the continued abandoning of the 2nd Niger Bridge , saying he is personally saddened by the news of its abandonment by the Federal Government.
Obi who described the action as very catastrophic for the nation assuming anything happens to the existing Bridge.
Obi lamented the continued delay in executing the contract insisting that the Bridge will assist economic and social activities in not only South-East and South-South but in Nigeria at large.
‘’Very sad to hear that and,. …abandoning the 2nd Niger Bridge is a Catastrophe because the entire region would be cut off should anything happen to the existing bridge across the Niger. We are finished………..’’.
Obi who has empowered over 400 youths at the tune of N100,000 each out of which 40 is doing pretty very well as Millionaires spoke to Authority at an event where he gave empowerment to 10 youths .

Obi's administration attracted the award of the contract of the Bridge during President Goodluck Jonathan's regime at the tune of N140 Billion before current administration of President Buhari stopped work on the Bridge.

On banning of pedestrians from crossing the existing Bridge, the Anglican Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Dr Owen Nwokolo wondered why the Niger Bridge , one of the best designed in the world as it has sections for motorists and pedestrians be an issue, but blamed it on insecurity.
Bishop Nwokolo said it is not ideal to bar pedestrians from using the Bridge but insisted because a lot have gone wrong in the country , a lot of things happen which ordinarily should not.
He blamed ill equipped security personnel as part of the problem as according to him, if the security personnel are well equipped, they would not be embarrassing individuals in the name of security measures as the Hi-tech equipment would detect weapon carrying persons before the Bridge.
‘’They are stopping the pedestrians from using the Bridge because they are not equipped …’’
Bishop Nwokolo appealed to the Federal government to ensure the security personnel in the country are well equipped professionally to secure the nation without embarrassing anybody as obtainable in other climes where civil movements are not disturbed be security operatives.

On Federal roads in Anambra state and 2nd Niger Bridge, Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor of the Anglican Diocese of Amichi, Nnewi South, wondered why the Military is still blocking pedestrians from using the Bridge and appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to use his good offices to ensure South-East people are not suffering unjustly during his administration.
He admitted that the closure is a security matter but that those concerned should get our security right.
He insisted closing the Niger Bridge from pedestrians have not solved anything but rather created confusion and tensed insecurity alert when Anambra has achieved some security consciousness and awareness.
He raised alarm over the dilapidation of the Onitsha-Oba-Nnewi-Amichi-Uga-Okigwe federal Highway abandoned over 5 years by the contractor handling it. He appealed on Federal government to re-award the contract and open up the zone even as he cried out on the death trap called Federal Highway across Onitsha-Enugu that has caused many lives.
He wondered what the members representing Anambra in the National Assembly are still doing there when federal roads in their constituencies are not mentioned , rehabilitated or constructed year in , year out.
