43 Unizik graduates inducted into physiotherapy profession

Forty three graduates of the department of medical rehabilitation, faculty of health sciences and technology, college of health sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi campus were yesterday inducted into the physiotherapy profession.

The ceremony took place at the college of health sciences, Okofia, Otolo-Nnewi, Anambra state.

The vice chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Joseph Ahaneku who was represented by Prof A Nwofor, provost college of health sciences of the institution in a speech pointed out that the institution has given them comprehensive trainings in character and learning because they are expected to handle human lives.

Prof Ohaneku stated that his administration has placed high premium on infrastructural development of the institution's campuses to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning. He pointed out that construction work on most of the roads in the campuses are completed.

The VC said further that Unizik also considers the training of teachers very important which he noted has made him initiated staff development programs for maxima impact.

He said emphatically that the school has a zero tolerance for cultism which has made the university campuses very peaceful and conducive for learning.

Prof Ohaneku urged the inductees to take seriously the oath they have taken, have respect for their patients and as well be useful to their immediate environment.

In his own speech, the acting Head of Department, department of  Medical Rehabilitation, Dr J Umunnah noted that physiotherapy trainings started in the college twelve years ago and have made giant strides made possible by the enabling environment made available by the VC and other principal officers of Unizik.

Dr Umunnah also encouraged the inductees to imbibe good virtues they have learnt in Unizik and be a good ambassador of the university noting that many graduates of the school have made strong statements in Nigeria and beyond.

He regretted that the department lost a student in December 2015 while awaiting for induction into the noble profession.

The oath was administered on the inductees by the registrar of Medical Rehabilitation and Therapists Board of Nigeria( MRTBN) Mrs Funke Akande who admonished them to look beyond their immediate environment for their internship.

The highlight of the occasion included recognition of four inductees who distinguished themselves in the examination that was conducted the board.
