Security agencies Brainstorm on new ways to improve Internal Security in the Anambra State

Development of new strategies to tackle internal security challenges and operations in the State was one of the issues raised at the Officers’ and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Training Day.

The Training session opened by Governor Willie Obiano at the Military Cantonment, Onitsha was attended by the Commander GOC 82 Division, Major General I Atahiru and all the Security Agencies in the State.

The Training Session had the theme, Enhancing the Capacity of Officers/Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Towards Combating Emerging Security Challenges.

Among the issues raised were how to ensure increased synergy among all the security agencies, intelligence gathering, drug-related crime, jurisdiction of the security agents, among others.

Declaring the event open, Governor Obiano pointed out that security is the bedrock of development, which is very evident in the State.
Enumerating some threats to security to include non- accountability and non- transparency at the Executive level of government, legislative arm and the judiciary, Governor Obiano represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke called on the Nation to look into greater funding of security agents, welfare-wise, as well as timely training of security personnel and sharing of information among the security agents, to better crime  combat .

Earlier, the Commandant 302 Artillery Regiment, Col Isa Abdulahi appreciated the Governor for his dedicated interest and efforts at tackling several security challenges in the State, as well as enormous support of security agencies in the State.

Delivering a paper titled Challenges of Internal Security Operations in Nigeria and strategies to tackle them, Col. C.A Atagi reiterated the need for the provision and use of communication gadgets and assets, improved synergy among security agencies leveraging on each other's strength, provision of adequate and serviceable vehicles, among others.

Some discussants and participants such as Mr Julius Owobole from DSS, NDLEA Commandant, Alhaji Sule Momodu, spoke on improved welfare, infrastructural development among other provisions for Security agencies in the State, pointing out that better cooperation exists among them because of the way the Governor treats them the same, and advocated for the replication of such cooperation at other levels.

The governor had earlier on arrival inspected the guard of honour.

The event climaxed with the presentation of award to the Governor.
