NGO sets 31st March as Goodluck Jonathan Day of Peace

Barely one year ago today, former President Goodluck Jonathan, conceded defeat to the then opposition candidate, Muhammadu Buhari. In commemoration of the day, a non-governmental organisation known as Sunday Bala-Oma Foundation has called on all Nigerians and lovers of democracy to tag the 31st March, every year as Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) day of peace.

The NGO believes that the date was the very day GEJ made a phone call to President Muhammadu Buhari and congratulated him for his victory in the 2015 presidential election.

The Organization, in a press statement signed by its Executive Director, Mr Sunday Bala-Oma, and made available to journalists in Jos yesterday said: “The action of the former President in making that call to President Buhari on that faithful day remain the single action that made Nigerians defeat all prophesies of doom and disunity that characterized the build up to the 2015 general elections.”

It reads, “My foundation, as a Non-Governmental Organisation established to advocate for good governance and qualitative education for sustainable development, has volunteered to spearhead the campaign to celebrate the date due to its significance in the promotion of democracy in Nigeria and Africa.
