Memories of Anambra Easter Fiesta 2016 at Women Development Center Awka

It was an afternoon of glitz and glamour at the maiden edition of the highly anticipated Anambra Easter Fiesta organised by the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS). The event which held at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka witnessed a considerably good audience and kicked off in grand style with ABS' Kelechi Nduka ‘Deejay Kayce’, the anchor of the show, announcing musical acts and performances one after another. The talented youngsters kept the audience on their feet.

As a prelude to the much anticipated performance from the students of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the audience were thrilled to music, dance, pantomime and a short comic drama piece. The show also presented a platform for upcoming artistes and songwriters to showcase their talents to a cheering audience. Notably, artistes like Bella, Snazzy had good performances while the musical maestros Swagzy thrilled the audience with their highlife song Adanma, accompanied by a rhythmic dance step which turned out to be the artiste’s signature song for the show.
Midway, the Fiesta witnessed an avalanche of dance groups, both cultural and contemporary, and even a blend of both in one electrifying ensemble. Female dancers Hadiza and Stalzy got a standing ovation with their separate performances either side of Jahlite Micky One’s Reggae performance. Smashing dance duo Stec Jesy gave the audience a good run for their money with an amazing infuse of dance and comedy performance. As the show neared its climax, the audience looked forward to the main event but not without another hilarious comedy skit by D-Light Entertainment crew.
And then came the moment everybody was waiting, thus the curtain opened at the Proscenium Stage of the Prof. Dora Akunyili Theatre Hall to cue in the beginning of the 45 minutes play “A Time in the Zoo”. The cast made up entirely of students of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, were spruced in a moody black to symbolize the grief and pain of The People of The Rising Sun, ripped apart by the evil war and dreadful disaster yet to befall Bamuda Kingdom. The play which comprised approximately a 70 man cast and crew was a master-piece put together by Director Emmanuel Oscar Ibekwe, which incorporated both music and dance.
The audience applauded to what turned out to be the closing glee of the night when the entire cast and crew filed out on stage to take a final bow. The MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr Uche Nworah said that the Organisation will continue to leverage on the peace and security which Governor Willie Obiano has enabled in Anambra state by organising more social events. He promised the audience that this year's Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant slated for October 28, 2016 will be bigger and better than the previous years'.

Mr. Godwin Eze(emo) who witnessed the show applauded the MD/CEO for his innovation since he assumed office and praised his visionary instinct and attention to detail apparently evident in the way the show was organized, even though it was the first edition. He described it as a trailblazer, a stepping stone for subsequent Anambra Easter Fiestas yet to come.
