Fire destroys buildings, vehicles as tanker loaded with fuel explodes

An explosion rocked Tapa street on Lagos Island Friday, destroying residential buildings in the resultant fire.

Buildings affected included Andy Craft vocational centre and a customary court.

At least 15 vehicles were completely razed in the inferno that was still being battled by the Lagos State Fire Service at about 8pm.

The fire was caused by a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres fuel.

Tragedy struck after the tanker veered off its lane and rammed into Tapa street, with a deafening sound, spilling its content on the ground. Time was 6pm.
