FC IfeanyiUbah whitewash Ikorodu United 4-1

Nnewi (Anambra) – FC IfeanyiUbah on Sunday in Nnewi whitewashed visiting Ikorodu United Football Club of Lagos 4-1 in a week six match in the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Two goals from Malian player Nico Dao in the first half and one each from Maduabuchi Okereke and Seka Pascal in the second half gave the hosts victory. Stephen Nwaiwu scored for the visitors in the early minutes of the second half through a well-taken free kick from the edge of the penalty area.

Speaking after the match, Benson Edema, coach of Ikorodu United, said the loss came to him as a huge shock and it was their worst since joining the elite cadre. Edema said he had however observed the lapses in his team and was now focused on getting it right ahead of their midweek match against Akwa United FC of Uyo. “It was a bad day. It really hurts but there is a lot to do, because we have a match against Akwa United on Wednesday.

“My players tried in the early minutes of the match before the goals came. But we will address the observed hiccups,’’ he said. On his part, Mitko Dobrev, coach of FC IfeanyiUbah, said his team was improving by the day and he was satisfied with every bit of their display. Dobrev said it was pleasant that his players who were from different countries were blending fast.

He said the club’s sights were set at representing Nigeria on the continent by next season. “But we will not be carried away by our present success. We will take each game at a time,’’ the coach said.
