Vice Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka , Prof Joseph Ahaneku at the weekend announced that his desire and mission in the University within his five years tenure is to include the University’s name in the World’s best 500 Universities, reports www.odogwublog.com exclusively.
Prof. Ahaneku reiterated the commitment of his administration in harnessing all resources, human and material, from within and outside the university in the pursuit of the actualization of the dream of transforming the institution to world class status.
His words: “The dream of our administration, which came on board in June, 2014, is to so transform the university that by the end of our five year tenure, it would have become one of the best five hundred (500) universities in the world, one of the best one hundred (100) universities in Africa and the best university in Nigeria”.

He spoke at the 2015/2016 matriculation ceremony of UNIZIK, which held at the convocation arena of the institution.

The event formally brought to a close the 2015/2016 admission cycle as announced by the vice chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, even as he congratulated the matriculating students for being among the less than seven (7000) thousand candidates offered admission by the institution out of the more than fifty thousand that had applied.
He assured the new students that all the academic programmes of the university are accredited with the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The university head advised the students to ensure that they fulfil all their financial obligations, attend at least 75% percent of all lectures and practical, shun exam misconduct, deviant behaviors such like robbery, rape and cultism which he described an anathema in the university.

Addressing the students, the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Ken Nwogu charged the newly admitted students to shun examination malpractice and avoid associating with any secret cults.

In an interview, the Provost Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra state, Professor Josephat Okechukwu Ogbuagu whom his daughter is among the matriculants expressed happiness over the event, even as he advised the freshmen to work hard and avoid keeping bad friends, make good results as well as shun cultism. He also entreated the students to be law abiding and prioritize their academic work to enable them achieve their mission to the University.

For Ogbuagu Ebube Rita, department of Radiography, Ogu Chukwuenyem and Amanda Okpalaeke both from the department of Mechanical Engineering were full of excitement over their matriculation as they expressed joy that they will no longer write JAMB again. While expressing gratitude to God over their admissions, the new students promised to work hard in academics as well abide religiously to rules and regulations guiding students in the university.

The departments of Music and Theatre arts were on ground to entertain the audience which filled the venue to the brim.

Taking an oath by the new students was part of the highlight. The oath read thus: “I solemnly and publicly declare that I will, to the best of my ability pursue my course of instruction in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University and abide by the rules and regulations of the university. I, hereby, resolve to uphold the principles for which this university stands and hold myself in honour bound to serve the university always and to work for the enthronement of Truth and Excellence. So help me God!”.
