ThisDay publisher, Nduka Obaigbena returns N350m to EFCC ; Leadership Newspaper refunds N9m


The publisher of ThisDay Newspapers, Mr. Nduka Obaigbena has reportedly returned N350m to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A top EFCC source who spoke to Punch said Obaigbena returned the money on Tuesday, February 2, 2016.
The source said “The Publisher of ThisDay Newspaper, Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, has returned N350m out of the N670m he received from the ONSA
“The Publisher is expected to return the rest N200m next week. You know that he signed an undertaking to return the money before they released him. That undertaking expires on Tuesday next week.’’
Obaigbena was invited by the anti-graft agency to shed more light on the N670m he allegedly collected from the office of a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
He was granted an administrative bail after agreeing to refund the money.
The EFCC subsequently gave the business mogul  two weeks to refund the money.
Reports also said Obaigbena used some part of the funds he collected, to fund Arise TV, his UK based television station, adding that N568, 360, 000 was allegedly transferred to Arise Global Media Limited.
Leadership Newspaper refunds N9m collected from Dasuki
Leadership newspaper has reportedly refunded N9million it collected from the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.
A copy of the cheque written in the name of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) was obtained.
The body had allegedly received huge funds from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which it disbursed to owners of newspaper and broadcast firms, including AIT, Leadership and ThisDay newspapers.
It would be recalled that the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on January 26, arrested media mogul and founder of ThisDay, Nduka Obaigbena, for allegedly receiving N670 million from the NPAN provide positive coverage of former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 presidential elections.
Obaigbena, who denied the money came from Dasuki's office, said the money was a compensation from Jonathan for the loss his company recorded after it was attacked by the Boko Haram sect.
Dokpesi, who admitted he received N2.1 Billion from Dasuki, was also arrested by the EFCC and later released on bail. He said the money was meant for publicity and media political campaigns during the last 2015 general elections.
