Saraki, Atiku, Tinubu, Oyegun keep mum after meeting with VP Osinbajo at Aso Villa

Frantic efforts by the State House Correspondents to get a word from many chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC who rose from a crucial meeting with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential Villa on Wednesday afternoon met a brick wall.
The chieftains included national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; his vice from south west, Engr. Segun Oni; President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun; Senate Leader, Ali Ndume.
Others were Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal; Imo state deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere; a former interim chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, among others.
They had met behind closed doors, starting at about 11am in one of the conference rooms of the Vice President’s Office.
This was the very first time such a high powered meeting of the APC top notchers would be convening in the office of the vice president since the coming of the President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration.
Curiously, it came at a time the president was away in Saudi Arabia for a State Visit.
Ending at about 3pm, Journalists swam around the personalities for comments but mum was the word.
At best, they all beamed smiles as they left.
But then the air around the Villa was heavy with speculations that they were meeting to reach a consensus for the presidency to soft pedal on the trial of the Senate President, Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT over alleged false declaration of assets.
Speaking to newsmen, the Special Adviser (Political) in the Vice President Office, senator Femi Ojudu said that a statement would be issued by the office of the vice president on the meeting which he referred to as “consultative meeting” of the party leaders.
The statement
Later in a two paragraph statement issued, the spokeperson of the vice president, Mr. Laolu Akande said the meeting was “very useful and resourceful”.
He was very tacit with words as he did not give details of the meeting.
“Select leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, drawn from the party’s National Headquarters, the legislative and executive arms of government had a consultative meeting on issues affecting the party and the nation.
“The meeting, which held at the Vice President’s conference room, was very useful and resourceful towards achieving the goals of the party and the government”, the statement said.
