Alike Ikwo community, in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been thrown into confusion as one Onuigbo Nwankwoeke was killed by his kinsman, Michael Onyhara when he went to recover N100 debt owed him by the suspect.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP George Okafor, confirmed the report.
He explained that on February 13, 2016 one Nwabueze Nwedu reported to the police that Mr Onigbo Nwankwoeke went to his brother’s house to demand for N100 the said Michael Onyhara owed him, but instead of recovering the money, he was killed in the process.
ASP Okafor told journalists that Mr Nwedu also told the police that when late Nwankwoeke got to Onyhara’s house and demanded for his money, the wife of Mr Onyhara gave the deceased the money but instead of thanking his wife for bailing him out, Onyhara forcefully collected the money from the deceased and tore it into shreds.
“The wife of Mr Michael Ochaya gave the N100 to Mr Nwankwoeke, but the husband forcefully collected the money back and tore it. In the process, a scuffle ensured which led to the death of the said Michael”, he narrated.
He also said that what killed Mr Nwankwoneke was a heavy blow that Mr Onyhara hit on his chest which brought him down and he gave up the ghost, adding that the corpse has been deposited at Onueke General Hospital for autopsy.
He said that investigation was still on to know the remote and immediate causes of the death.
