INEC sabotaging Buhari - APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday declared the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as among the enemies of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The party stated that like the 26 heads of government agencies sacked on Monday by President Buhari, INEC was sabotaging the APC-led Federal Government.
This weighty allegation was conveyed yesterday, by the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun,
Oyegun made the allegation at the Aso Rock Villa when he led the national executive members of the party to a meeting with the President.
According to him, such sabotage by the sacked parastatals’ heads was still ongoing in INEC.
Odigie-Oyegun, who emerged from the meeting, was asked by reporters if the parley had to do with the need for Buhari to fill in the vacant positions with APC stalwarts so as to have the party fully take over the federal agencies.
The APC boss, however, declared that “party members were not concerned about the positions; we are concerned about the internal sabotage that is going on in a lot of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-filled positions which are critical to our national growth and development.
“It is happening in INEC, it is happening in a lot of other institutions and that is what the concern of the party is, not necessarily taking over.
“We should take over and they should be people who believe in the change agenda; we have no apologies for that at all, “ he said.
Although, Odigie-Oyegun was silent in the areas where INEC was sabotaging the government, it is believed that his comment may not be unconnected with the commission’s disqualification of the APC candidate, Mrs. Sharon Ikeazor from the forthcoming Anambra Central Senatorial re-run and the party’s loss of the recent Bayelsa State governorship election to the incumbent Governor Seriake Dickson. Others are the INEC’s defence of the disputed governorship elections in Taraba, Rivers, Abia and Akwa Ibom states which made the Supreme Court to validate the polls.
At the time of going to press last night, no INEC official was ready to join issues with Odigie-Oyegun.
On the confusion trailing the 2016 Budget, Odigie-Oyegun at¬tributed it to the complexities aris¬ing from Buhari’s pruning of federal ministries from over 40 to over 20.
He said: “There is absolutely no confusion. This is a serious issue. I want you to please understand the complications that came from adjusting a structure from over 40 ministries to just over 20 ministries and the necessary adjustments of figures and movements of institutions that it entails.
“It was very complicated, so it is natural that adjustments have to be made to the process and that is just what is happening,” the APC boss said.
Odigie-Oyegun further explained that the party leaders were in Aso Rock to consult with Buha¬ri and to raise intra party matters with him.
On Monday, Buhari fired the 26 directors-general, managing di¬rectors and executive secretaries of federal agencies.
