Buhari erred on VCs' sack - C'ttee of VCs, Okebukola

The Committee of Vice Chancellors (CVC) of Nigeria has lambasted the Federal Government’s sack of four Vice Chancellors (VCs) who were yet to serve out their tenures.

In an interview with The AUTHORITY, the CVC Secretary-General, Prof. Michael Faborode, also frowned at the procedure adopted in the appointment of the 13 new VCs by the Federal Ministry of Education at the weekend.

The CVC, which is the umbrella body of universities VCs in the country, appealed to the Federal Government to reverse the appointments as due process was breached.

He said: “Those four Vice Chancellors who have not served out their tenures should be reinstated, that is Vice Chancellors of the federal universities established in 2012 and that of Oye-Ekiti.

“The other nine VCs who have served out their appointments, proper procedure should be followed in approving the new appointments. If not, it will be an abridgment of the process, which is not good for the university system.”

The affected four VCs that the committee wants the government to recall Prof. Lawal Suleiman Bilbis of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State; Prof. Ben-Chuks Okeke, Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State; Prof. Shehu AbdulRahman, Federal University, Gashua, Yobe State and Prof. Isaac Asuzu of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
