Anambra PDP begs INEC after disqualification?

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday confirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been barred from contesting the Anambra Central Senatorial District rerun election slated for March 5, 2016 in Anambra State. But is PDP begging to contest, or there is some other game plans?

The commission also affirmed that only candidates who contested the March 28, 2015 Senatorial election in the zone were eligible to contest the rerun election.
Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra State, Dr. Lawrence Azubuike, who stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka yesterday, did not, however, give reasons why the PDP was barred in the rerun election.
The commission’s statement read in part: “The Commission also decided that pursuant to the said judgment, only the political parties and candidates who participated in the March 28, 2015 senatorial election in Anambra Central Senatorial District, excluding the PDP and its candidate, will participate in the rerun election.”
 “Flowing from this, INEC, Anambra State, pursuant to the decision and directive of the commission, reiterates and restates that no candidate who did not contest the 28th March 2015 senatorial election in Anambra Central Senatorial District is eligible to contest the 5th March 2016 re-run election.”
Assuring that it was ready for the rerun election, the commission said it has scheduled a stakeholders’ meeting tomorrow at its headquarters in Awka to give clarifications on some issues concerning the election.
It said, “Further, all duly registered voters are enjoined to go and cast their votes at the designated polling units where they were registered on the aforementioned date. In its resolve to ensure a credible election, the Commission shall strictly apply all the provisions of all relevant laws governing the election.
“Consequently, all parties, their candidates and supporters are required to adhere strictly to all laws, regulations and guidelines regulating the process.”
The Commission was, however, silent on the fate of the All Progressives Alliance (APC) whose candidate in the March 28, 2015 Senatorial election, Sen. Chris Ngige, was appointed a Minister and has been replaced with a lawyer, Ms. Sharon Ikeazor.
