Use drones to monitor pipelines, Centre urges NNPC

The Centre for Crisis Communication has called on Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other stakeholders to deploy drones to stem the tide of pipeline vandalism.

The centre, which made the call in a statement made available to The AUTHORITY on Thursday, condemned the renewed spate of oil and gas pipelines vandalism in the Niger Delta region.

The statement which was signed by the Executive Secretary of the Centre, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas (rtd) says, “There is the need for the NNPC and other stakeholders to urgently invest in and deploy digital system of surveillance, including drones, which has the capacity to detect and report anywhere pipelines are tampered with.”

While blaming the recent pipelines attack on criminals who are bent on diverting attention from the current war on corruption, the centre said such well-organised vandalism threatened the economy of the country as well as the lives of the people.
