Kidnappers who have turned Imo state to their crime factory, on Thursday, showed no mercy on six-month old female triplets from Umugara, Umulogho community in Obowo Local Government Area of the state as they abducted the babies at gunpoint from their mother, Christiana Iroh.
Mrs. Iroh who narrated her ugly experience said that she was sleeping with her triplets when the armed bandits broke into her home at about 1.30am and took away her babies, pointing a gun at her.
“I was sleeping on the bed, the babies were equally sleeping beside me on the floor while my other two children were in the inner room. Suddenly, four men, one of who was wearing mask entered through the backyard. He forced the door open.
“As I wanted to shout, one of them held my neck tightly, pointing a gun at my throat, threatening to kill me while the one in mask stayed with the two children in the other room, as the other members of the gang collected the babies,” Iroh narrated in tears.
She further explained that the armed men later escaped through a bush path by the side of her home with the babies.
Not leaving any stone unturned in the process of their investigation, the divisional police station later arrested and detained the woman’s brother-in law, Ukachukwu Iroh for threatening to deal with her a day before the incident took place.
The triplets, according to their mother, were later found near a hospital in the area, yesterday.
Despite the recovery of the babies, the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Patrick Ngozi Uwalaka, appealed to the police to help bring the perpetrators to book.
Reacting to the incident, the Imo State Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Dave Adeyemi, said that despite recovering the babies, the police would still apprehend and prosecute those behind the crime to serve as deterrence to others who would want to engage in such act in future.
“We are still investigating the matter,” Adeyemi said, adding “we would make sure all suspects connected to the wicked act are brought to book to serve as deterrence to those who may contemplate such crime in future.”
