Supreme Court: PDP making mockery of Democracy in Anambra - APGA Chieftain, Rommy Ezeonwuka

A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Proprietor of Rojenny Games Village Oba, near Onitsha, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka (Ogirisi Igbo) has reacted to Friday’s Supreme Court verdict on the leadership of the Anambra State chapter of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) saying the party has been making mockery of democracy in Anambra over the years.

Speaking with The AUTHORITY on Sunday, Ezeonwuka said that sacking eleven federal lawmakers at once by the Apex Court is consequent upon the fact Anambra PDP has completely failed to manage itself as a body and ended with factional leadership and fielding multiple candidates in election. A situation, he said, plunged the party into a barrage of bewildering court cases.

The BoT member said “all the affairs of the party in the state are trailed by litigations  which have lingered for so long that everything about the party was hanging in the balance with the members not knowing the true position of where they belong or who is the right person in charge. In fact, all the affairs of the party have been characterized by confusion which, by implication, mocks and pollutes democracy in Anambra state.

“The PDP in Anambra has existed like a bunch of confusion with many line-ups and factions of leadership because none of the gladiators wants to give up to the other. During election, they field multiple candidates against the rule of law as enshrined in the Electoral Act because none of the aspirants wants to give up to the other. Unfortunately, APGA is a victim because when they field three candidates for one position, they scatter the votes of the electorate to the detriment of the APGA candidate”.
He described the Supreme Court verdict as “a far reaching act of fate” affected by law as the court considered and interpreted what is involved.
He advised those ousted from the National Assembly by the ruling of the Nigeria’s Apex Court to accept it in good fate.
