Innoson Set to Empower over 500 Nigerian Youths - Flags-off Face of IVM Pageantry

The Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing company (IVM) has disclosed plans to empower over 500 Nigerian youths in its bid to giving back to the society and encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship.

This was revealed yesterday in a press conference which held at the IVM complex, Nnewi, Anambra state.
The pageantry is a collaboration between the IVM and the Nigerian Students Leadership Forum (NSLF).

Addressing the press, the chairman, CEO of IVM Company, Chief Innocent Chukwuma said that the Innoson Group has for over the years contributed immensely to the manufacturing of durable and affordable automobiles for Nigerians and Africans in a bid to eradicating the importation of tokumbo automobiles in Nigeria thus making Innoson IVM the first made in Nigeria automobile brand.

Mr. Onusogu Nnamdi stated that the face of IVM is a way of contributing to the development and empowerment of young Nigerians. "After many years of our numerous businesses and patronage from Nigerians, we feel that the time is now ripe to give back especially through this medium as it affects young Nigerians. In the project, over 500 young women will be trained and empowered with different skills that will be of tremendous benefit to them and our country at large. However, there are consolation prices for contestants and over 20 young Nigerian women will be empowered to start their own business with the skills they acquired from this project", Chief Chukwuma stated.

Explaining the motive behind the pageantry, the NSLF national coordinator, Prince Echem said, " This is a pageantry with a sharp divergence from the norm as far as pageantry is concerned in Nigeria. The Face of IVM seeks to celebrate the beauty, brain and the empowerment of women. It is further geared towards promoting the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) brand which has continued to live the Nigerian dream. The IVM brand has given strength and voice to the “Made in Nigeria” mantra. This is a platform to further develop our young girls in becoming self reliant".

Prince Echem further stated that the pageantry is out to help the contestants in building self-esteem, poise and confidence, learn a skill, build leadership skills, enhance community development and empowerment through humanitarian service as well as projecting a positive image of the Nigerian Youth to the rest of the world. 

Speaking further about the prizes, Prince Echem said" The Star Prize is IVM G5 SUV and N500,000 Naira plus a one year Job offer with an attractive pay; the first runner-up will go home with the sum of 1 Million naira while the second runner-up goes home with 500,000. The first Nineteen contestants would get N50,000 naira".

He explained further that all the contestants will be trained in one out of five different skills acquisition, with certificates from UNESCO-UNEVOC and University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) adding that the best five from each class will be empowered with capital to start up their business.

He disclosed that girls between the ages of 18 and 25 are eligible to contest. He stated that interested contestants should log on to www.nslf.org.ng to register after which a payment of N5000 naira will be made in Zenith bank. Concluding, he added that the winner of the contest will become a skill empowerment ambassador and will hold skill acquisition trainings in various states of the federation.

On his part, the coordinator UNESCO-UNEVOC, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof. Emmanuel Osinem pointed out the contestants will be trained in Cosmetology, Beauty Care and Salon, Culture and Tourism, Fashion and Design as well as Food preservation. He posited that this is the innovative angle of this project which according to him is different from other pageantries.

Prof. Osinem added that there will be competency based evaluation for the contestants at the end of the training for winners to emerge.

In his vote of thanks, the chairman of the occasion, Hon. Chief Godson Obi (Owelle Ogbunka) described the project as a lofty one which will go a long way in impacting on the lives of young Nigerians. He called on young women to embrace this opportunity.

Also present at the occasion include Mr. Esuo George the Business Development Manager of IVM and Mr. Amaluchukwu the factory manager.

Highpoint of the occasion was the unveiling of the grand prize (the Innoson G5 SUV).
