Gunmen shoot Anglican priest in Bayelsa, abduct engineer

Police in Bayelsa are now in search of unidentified gunmen who at the weekend stormed an Anglican Church in Igbedi Community, Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State and abducted a popular engineer identified as Duncan Eke.
The Nation gathered that the suspected kidnappers also shot and injured one of the presiding priests, Ezekiel Obata.
The incident, according to community sources, occurred at about 12.40am on Sunday.
The gunmen were said to have invaded the church and forcibly took away their victim.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.
 Butswat said the injured victim was rushed to a clinic at Polaku on the outskirts of Yenagoa where he is being treated.
He said: “On the 24 January, 2016, at about 1240hrs, unknown gunmen abducted one Engr. Dunkan Eke, at Igbedi Community, in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA.  The abductors also shot and injured one Rev. Ezekiel Obata.
“The injured victim is responding to treatment at a clinic in Polaku. Efforts have been intensified to rescue the victim and arrest the abductors.”
