Ebonyi: 80 years old man Nweferu survives fire outbreak, lost Wife, 7 children

A midnight fire outbreak in Ohufu village, Ogboji community in Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi state yesterday left a woman and her seven children dead.

The inferno suspected to have been the handiwork of an enemy of the family was said to have started by 3am and consumed the woman and the children. It however spared the husband, Sylvanus Nwefuru and one of the children, Ukamaka Nwefuru.

The fire razed two thatch houses where the family members slept and destroyed properties worth thousands of naira.
Sylvanus Nweferu, an 80-year old man told newsmen that he heard a loud noise while in deep sleep which woke him up saying that he suspected that someone might have set their hut on fire.

On her part, Ukamaka Nwefuru said her mother rescued her and went to save the other children when she was trapped in the inferno and she died.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ishielu local government area, Henry Eze who confirmed the incident, called on security agents to investigate the matter.
