Cultists invade Anambra community, burn property

The Nigerian Police have swung into action to arrest cultists who invaded Nkpor community in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state on Friday morning and burnt a resi¬dential house with property worth several millions of naira.
Confirming the development, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) stationed in nearby Ogidi town, Mr. Hassan Musa said his team was investigating the incident.
His words, “I went there with my men and saw the burnt house and we are investigating the case”.
It was indeed pathetic as cultists numbering about 20 and believed to be members of Black Axe fraternity invaded Mgbachu village in Nkpor and set a house on fire.
The incident, according to sources, happened about 2 a.m. and cli¬maxed the fear that has gripped the residents of the area who complained that for two weeks now, the community has been besieged by cultists who terrorized the people.
Narrating his ordeal, the owner of the burnt house, Hon. Innocent Ilechukwu, said, “they (cultists) told us earlier that they would raze the house and later six of them came and shot into the air to remind us that they would keep to their word.
“I made straight to the police at Ogidi and informed them of the threat and ran away to Onitsha with my family and hours later they came and set the house on fire.
“My junior brother had on a tip-off that they were on the way and ran into the bush with his family and was identifying them from there as they were shooting and razing the house with gallons of petrol they came with.
“The house and other properties burnt should be about N25 million and I appeal to Governor Willie Obiano and the police to come to Nkpor and rescue us from the cultists now”.
Another victim of the cultists, an old man of 85 years, Mr. Dave Okolo, said “two weeks ago they ransacked my house and shot my wife and one other person”.
