Anambra State Govt. cautions motorcycle riders in the State

Motorcycle operators in the state have once again been advised to abide by the state government directives guiding their operations in the state.
The Commissioner for Transport Dr Ifeanyichukwu Ejikeme gave the advice during a meeting with Motorcycle Transport, Union of Nigeria, Nnewi branch at the union’s office at Uruagu Nnewi.
Dr Ejikeme who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism Dr Mrs Uju Nwogu and Sole Administrator, Nnewi North Local government Area, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Junior.
Addressing the Commercial motorcycle operators popularly known as Okada riders, Commissioner Ejikeme said the meeting became necessary due to their non compliance to some of the directives which include wearing of crash helmet, registration of their motorcycles and plying Enugu/Onitsha and Onitsha Owerri Express road respectively.
Dr Ejikeme stressed that the directive by the state government was aimed at safe guarding their lives and that of the citizenry.
He further said that the registration of motorcycles in state which is free of charge will assist in fishing out criminals among them.
On her part, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism Dr Mrs Uju Nwogu explained that the motorcycle operators need to abide by the directives to reduce accidents to the barest minimum.
Dr Nwogu who enumerated Governor Obiano’s developmental strides in the state urged the Okada riders to support the present administration to be able to do more for them and commended them for their contribution to the growth of the transport sector.
The Sole Administration of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu Junior noted that Nnewi always sets the pace and urged the Okada riders to reciprocate the government good gestures Governor lifted ban on all roads except the highways when they pleaded with him.
The State Chairman of the Union Comrade Jude Udegbe promised that the enforcement will take effect ten days from today and advised both private and commence motorcycle operators to abide by all the directives given to them.
