30 unclaimed corpses litter Federal Medical Center Asaba

There is more than 30 unclaimed corpses at the Federal Medical Center Asaba , Delta state, and it is indeed causing confusion there.

The Delta State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) Mr Rindom Kumven has stated that the 30 unclaimed corpses at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba were not victims of one accident.

Kumven, said on Saturday that FRSC recorded much fewer road crashes during the Yuletide than in previous years, stated that the corpses were actually from different accidents over a period of time, and his agency had collaborated with the FMC management to announce to the public to come forward to identify and remove them for burial.
The sector commander was speaking during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day that held at the Cenotaph, GRA, Asaba.
According to him, the 30 corpses didn’t lose their lives in one instance. It was on several occasions when we carried out rescue operations. In one instance, there were nine people who were burnt to ashes. We took their ashes to FMC, Asaba, and we tried our best to ensure that they were iden-tified. Truly speaking, a lot of people came up. Those who were not identified were the ones the FMC are complaining about. But we have been in touch with the CMD, and we agreed that such announcements be made on TV and radio so that those that have not seen their relations who traveled should come to FMC and check. On our own part, we ensure that whenever we carry out rescue operations, the identities of those rescued are unravelled”.

Speaking further, Kumven explained that the strategies his command used were responsible for the low accident rate during the Christmas and New Year celebrations: “We ensured that nobody was stranded on the roads, the number of crashes recorded were very few, and everybody was able to travel to their villages and return. We didn’t have the kind of casualties’ figure that we used to have in previous years. That goes a long way to tell you that we actually strategised to ensure that the Yuletide was accident-free”.
