Meet the Hausa/Fulani Senator Ibn Na’Allah, the Man Behind the Social Media Bill Friday, 4 December 2015
Very little is known about Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, the Nigerian
lawmaker behind a bill prescribing a two-year jail term for offenders of
“false comments” in the Nigerian social media.
The bill, seeking a two-year jail term for any person who makes false allegation or publishes any statement or petition in the newspaper, radio or medium of whatever description against another person, institutions of government or any public office holder, passed second reading in the Senate on Wednesday.
Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah is a lawyer and a pilot. He is married with children.
He was elected to the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Zuru, Kebbi State from 2003 -2011 and elected to the Senate in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He currently serves as Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
