I thought I will not have to add another epistle about the futility of a republic of Biafra after my last one, as already most of what I have written are gradually coming to pass, but because of the passion I have for what I believe in, I just need to put this down at least for posterity sake.
It was with dismay that I witnessed the violence orchestrated by IPOB people in Onitsha on Tuesday and Wednesday. These hoodlums blocked the expressways, forced their fellow Igbo’s to close shops, and at some point started looting things. I asked myself, how can aggressors be oppressing people and still be claiming victims. You cannot go to Abuja where kanu is held and block the road or go to SSS and close their headquarters but here you are showcasing strength against innocent traders and motorists who just want to go about their normal business. I ask, whose region is being impoverished by the acts of these riff raffs? Who is suffering it? It’s just like the actions of boko haram (when they started asking for their Islamic state) which is being suffered mainly by the north east, this will be how south east will be the main recipient of this mayhem.
I just blame the F.G. in a way. Assuming I was in power, I wont arrest Kanu and make him a hero, no! I would have just sent a killer squad to finish him and make it look like an accident or robbery attack! That’s all. As for his radio station, I would equally spend good money to promote media hype and propaganda to mitigate the effect of his hate messages and let the people see the futility in his tirade. Equally I will sponsor Anti biafran protests across Igbo land to challenge them. Infact, my own protest will outweigh theirs (na money kill am). And to spice it well, I will be using the security agents to be tormenting them, once they start their havoc.
I bet you, this thing will be history. Can’t you see that immediately force was used, everywhere became calm at least for now. The average igbo man has no gut for violence. That is a fact, the igbos are business minded people and are generally peaceful and don’t have time for war. I am certain if we have a referendum, IPOB will lose. Majority of the people I saw protesting were touts and bike men. The traders, civil servants , etc where no where seen. Except some mischievous people who come online to rattle but yet wont come to the war front, I don’t think any rational igbo person will want another war or even Biafra. We igbos have a lot to lose. And besides we are too divided to have a strong nation. (I already written about that in my previous articles).
The major dearth of this Biafra struggle will be our disunity and the fact that the people to sponsor it are not interested cos they have a lot to lose. Ojukwu was able to declare Biafra because one he was in power then, he was the governor in charge of eastern region, secondly they was a genocide against igbos then in the north, thirdly the experience of the country was still starting then. The circumstance is not so today. There is no pogrom against the igbos save their perceived political marginalization caused by their political miscalculations. 2ndly there is no leader in power now that openly endorses Biafra. Unlike with boko haram, their Islamic ideology, political ideology, international sponsorship by al qeada, ISIS, extreme poverty all made boko haram take strong root. It is not so in the east, most of us are Christians and our religious ideology makes us subservient to authority, we are relatively prosperous and hustlers despite our hardship, our political ideology is more of family unit or community hence the popular adage “igbo enweghi eze” and most importantly asides all these media hop wash, we don’t have any major world power supporting us or backing us. It cannot just work for now.
Finally, I wonder how foolish we can be, Nnamdi kanu hails from Abia state, a state widely criticized for its impoverished structures and bad leadership for the past 16years by the Orjis. Nnamdi couldn’t raise protests against the bad leadership, and suffering of his people. Even when OUK sacked non indigene igbos from civil service of Abia state he did not talk, IPOB never protested, A bishop of Anambra Origin was widely rejected by Ahiara people of Imo state as Catholic bishop because he is from Anambra, IPOB did not talk, the atrocities and bad leadership committed by our leaders have not made us to protest, rather we take sides with them on every election and cast votes, and here we are shouting at others as the cause of our problems… charity truly begins at home.
