South East town unions condemn killing of pro-Biafra agitators

Leaders of the Association of South-East Town Unions (ASETU) have condemned the recent killing of protesters by the Military, warning that such actions would not stop the struggle.
The Military has been linked to the recent killing of pro-Biafra protesters in Onitsha, Anambra State.
In a communique jointly signed by its state chairmen and secretaries after a meeting in Owerri and read by Imo State Chairman of the association, Chief Emeka Diwe, ASETU said marching out soldiers who only know how to shoot and kill unarmed and peaceful demonstrating teenagers was ill-conceived.
The group described dialogue as the only option to resolving the agitation, stating that the issue of sec¬cession presents inevitable ingredients for frank talk by all parties. He implored the federal government to un¬earth the remote and immediate causes of the agitation in order to address the matter. They said that as town unions and grassroots leaders, they will do their best to create an enabling environment for a peaceful dialogue and resolution of the crisis.
They, however, advised Igbo, especially those engaged in commerce and industry, to think more of home and bring their investments to the region for unimpeded development of the region.
On the war against corruption, ASETU commended President Muhammadu Buhari on its efforts at ini¬tiating the fight against corruption, describing it as the only deadly virus tormenting Nigeria.
ASETU noted that integrity is the only vaccine against corruption and therefore expressed optimism that if President Buhari can deal with it, he will remain the greatest leader Nigeria has ever had.
