RE-RUN: WHY EKWUNIFE WILL CRASH OUT

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance , Sir Victor Umeh on Friday said he dragged his opponent of the People’s Democratic Party ,PDP, Mrs Uche Ekwunife to court to fight what he called  election brigandage and impunity.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu had on Monday nullified Ekwunife’s election and ordered for a fresh poll for Anambra Central Senatorial district within 90 days.

Umeh who spoke with journalists in Awka, Anambra state capital  on Friday described the March 28 senatorial election in his district as monumental fraud hinged on brigandage and impunity.

He said because the presidential election took place the same, the security agencies were mobilized to work for the PDP in all the elections.

“ But today, we have a government that is averse to impunity and cutting corners.

“Today things have really changed for good. Today we don’t have a Nigerian first lady who would stay in Abuja and threaten the businesses of Anambra people if they fail to vote for the PDP.

“Today my opponent knows she is already out of the re-run election because  those factors that encouraged brigandage and impunity in the March28 polls are no longer here with us.”

He saluted the courage of the judiciary in sustaining the confidence reposed in it by the common man.

On the allegation by his opponent, Mrs Ekwunife, who described the Court of Appeal judgement  as “a Father  Christmas judgement”, Umeh said he would not want to join issues with anybody who would want to put the Nigerian judiciary to disrepute.

He said “In my petition of all prayers, I asked the court to make any pronouncement it deemed fit in the circumstance of going through the petition.

He said “with  this covering-all the- field” petition, it was wrong for his opponent to say that the court gave him what he did not ask and therefore that the verdict was a “father Christmas.”
He described Ekwunife's comments as the ranting of a drowning vindictive recluse.
