In line with his commitment towards providing enabling environment for the armed forces to operate in securing lives and properties in Anambra state, Governor Willie Obiano on Thursday commissioned new police quarters in Aguleri, Otuocha Local Government Area.
Governor Obiano posited that the issue of security of lives and properties of Ndi Anambra remains paramount in his administration.
Obiano, who was represented by his chief of Staff, Prof. Joe Asike restated that his administration has always ensured proper utilization of its security votes in the area of security hence its present status as the safest state in Nigeria.
The governor reiterated that his administration has continued to make community policing effective in the state, calling on relevant stakeholders like community heads as well as Ndi Anambra as a whole to join hands together in the area of security. According to Governor Obiano, security is a collective responsibility and as such it is incumbent on individuals to report criminal activities to the police.
In his remark, the state commissioner of police, CP H.H Karma represented by the command's Police Public Relations Officer, Ali Okechukwu commended Obiano on the robust relationship that exists between the command and the state government as well as his sincere resolve in crime fighting.
Also speaking at the occasion, the state commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Frank Emeka Offor stated that the commissioning of the quarters is a further demonstration of love, unabated support and commitment of the Obiano led administration to the welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
Earlier in his remarks, the divisional police officer, CSP Christopher Bassey while expressing his gratitude said, "My gratitude comes from the unique support the government has given to the police command since the inception of Willie Obiano-led administration, one of which is providing a comfortable accommodation, a water project and a generator to power the water pump, being commissioned in Otuocha Police station today". He noted that the lofty projects are geared towards giving the police comfort, sense of belonging, encouragement and enabling environment to forge ahead towards fighting crime.
Present at the event included the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Prof. Mrs. Kate Omenugha, some members of the state executive, rank and file in the police and community members.
