Nigeria will not be divided-Ganduje

Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has insisted that Nigeria would not break up as a country, saying that calls by some Igbo groups in the South East to that effect have since failed.
The governor disclosed this at the weekend, during a sympathy visit to traders of Sabon -Garri Market , Kano, over Thursday night’s inferno that destroyed about 87 shops in the market.
He explained that the leaders of thought in South- East, including their religious, their traditional leaders, their governors and the members of their political class had assured President Buhari that the secessionist’s agitators did not represent the position of the generality of Igbo people.
“Therefore, the calls by these groups to divide Nigeria would not succeed. Nigeria will not be divided” he declared.
Governor Ganduje also refuted the claims, in some quarters, that the fire outbreak at the market was a reprisal to the crisis that broke out in Onitsha.
“It has nothing to do with any tribe or anybody retaliating over what has happened in any part of the country…….It is purely an accident and I am happy that an Igbo man, who is a trader in this market had come out to testify that the fire outbreak was an accident” he declared.
He stressed that it was purely an accident, adding that Hausa shop owners and traders were affected by the fire more than the traders of any other tribe.
The governor sympathized with the victim and pledged to assist them even as he warned against inflating the figures or including the names of those who were unaffected by the fire.
He hinted that government would enact a law banning public smoking in the state, saying that when the law is operational, smokers would smoke privately.
He promised to increase the available security arrangements as well as station a water tanker in the market as part of efforts to avoid a reoccurrence of the tragedy.
