Heavy shooting in Ijaw community

There was heavy shooting in Oporo­ma, Southern Ijaw Local Govern­ment, between alleged supporters of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Four people were feared dead, while several others were injured in the encoun­ter.

Both the PDP and APC are already trading accusations over the violent attack. In its quick reaction, The Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisa­tion has accused the PDP of attack­ing members of the APC across the state. “We have it on good authority that Governor Seriake Dickson imported over five thousand thugs from neighbouring states of Delta and Rivers to cause violence in the election.

The wave of attack has con­firmed our fears and alarm that Governor Dickson was the one planning to cause violence,” it stated.

In the same way, the PDP is also pointing accusing finger at some chieftains of the APC for causing the mayhem, alleging attempt to hijack electoral ma­terials. Anxiety was high that the security situation may com­pel the INEC to withdraw Corp members from the troubled ar­eas.
