Fire brings down 200 shops in Ibadan

While most people were having a jolly merry Christmas, it was a black Christmas for some of the traders in the popular Sango market, Ibadan, as fire destroyed up to 200 shops in the plank section of the market.

The Alaro market area of sango was reportedly brought down by an inferno which started at about 3pm and as at 8pm was still on.

According to reports, item worth N250M was lost in the fire incidence.

Although nobody could give an account to what exactly stated the fire, the Oyo State Fire Service vehicles were seen to have rushed to the Eleyele water works for refill.

Mr Afolabi, a witness said he would rate the fire service men low, “Each time the vehicle left to refill water, we lost more shops because the fire would gain more ground. Don’t forget this is the time of the year when fire incidents are rampant because we are in the dry season. More fire service vehicles are needed to forestall possible overnight fire here. As you can see, we now pay to bring water tanker to help the fire service men.”

He explained that several sawing machines and other logging equipment were lost to the fire and he called on the state government to come to the aid of the traders that have lost their shops in the fire..

Most recently, about 100 persons were been reported dead in Anambra State after being burnt in a gas plant explosion.
