Calling For UN Peace Keeping Force to Protect Civilians in the SE and SS Zones
There is evidence that the Nigerian Security Forces are not capable of protecting innocent and peaceful demonstrators in the South South and South East Political Zones of Nigeria. According to reports reaching Africa Business World civilians were shot and killed at Onitsha during the peaceful demonstration in support of the release of Nnamdi Kanu. Historically there has been this problem whereby peaceful demonstrators in the SE have been attacked and killed by the Security Forces. Recent proclamations by the Army point to a brutal determination to attack innocent Nigerian Demonstrators by what they described as “Rules of Engagement” for whatever that means. There is also report that the Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police has suggested imposition of Curfew in the South Eastern States.

There is an urgent need for SS and SE political leaders from the east do to protect lives of innocent citizens from attacks and killings. They should call for the help of the United Nations Peace keeping Force to protect and safeguard the lives of innocent civilian demonstrators who are simply invoking their civil liberty rights granted through the Nigerian Constitution as well as the United Nations Charter. Africa Business World believes that this measure will be needed to safeguard the Nigerian citizens from killings at the hands of the Security forces which were supposed to protect them in the first place.
