Prof Umego lamented that efforts of some professors in the community to ensure competitive education returned to Uga by sponsoring extra morals were abused by the students as they use the period as escapism from chores at home and parental supervision. He reminded them there is nothing like graduating in character and learning as one would be proud of his or her results against what is obtainable today called ‘’Special centers’’ for buying results one could not defend.
The University Don pointed out that students now abuse the mobile phone rather than engage in serious studies, they resort to frivolities with the phone and hope to engage in malpractice to get good grades at last, he therefore advised that moderation should be applied in everything they do to enable them excel in life , adding that once they realize that harwork does not kill but opens doors, they better for them.
‘’The precious time you should use to study , you waste in chatting and sourcing for what is not beneficial in your mobile phone, television too is a distraction to a studious mind , don’t over indulge .....parents should dedicate more of their time on their children to encourage them do better.....’’
He condemned special centers which he described as cancerous to the growth of education in Nigeria , hence he pointed out many students don’t cope in the University having gained entrance through the back door.
