Anambra FA election: Igbokwe raises alarm over missing N4.4m

A candidate in the upcoming Anambra FA election, Barrister Iyke Igbokwe, has filed a protest to the nation’s soccer governing body, NFF, urging it to investigate how over N4.4m raised from the sale of nomination forms vanished from the coffers of the Normalization committee that is billed to conduct the election.
Igbokwe in his protest letter to NFF, a copy of which was made available to the media, pointed out that the new umpire for the Anambra FA election, E.C. Chukwuemeka, had early this week told Anambra football stakeholders at a meeting held in Awka that what he met in the account handed over to him by Normalization committee was only N1.6m while over N6m was supposed to have been raised from the sale of forms.
It would be noted that over 200 contestants paid between N30, 000 and N150, 000 for the forms of the controversial Anambra FA election that has since this year been running into troubled waters.
Igbokwe’s protest letter read in part: “The fraud which we, the Anambra Football stakeholders and especially, the candidates of the forthcoming elections, had long suspected, came to the open during a meeting convened by Sir E.C. Chukwuemeka, where he (Chukwuemeka) disclosed that he only met N1.6m in the account of the Anambra FA Normalization committee account.”
Igbokwe said the NFF must investigate what has happened to well over N4.4m insisting that the Nor- malization committee generated N6m from candidates.
“A thorough probe of the missing millions has become necessary so that a group of people do not fleece the football industry in Anambra State. The NFF also needs to wash its hands clean and show Nigerians that it has no hand in the alleged fraud,” Igbokwe stated.
