Three persons were yesterday confirmed dead while six others were seriously injured in a lone accident that involved a Toyota Highlander SUV opposite Asaba Airport along the Benin- Asaba-Onitsha expressway.
This is even as a petrol station, Anioma Filling Station, along Okpanam Road within Asaba metropolis was razed by inferno.
The fire incident, it was gathered, occurred when a petrol tanker was discharging its content without waiting for the required time for it to cool off as it was said to be returning from the depot where it loaded the product.
Although, no human casualty was involved in the sad incident, the filling station was however badly affected before men of the Delta State Fire Service arrived to put out the ravaging inferno and prevent it from spreading to other buildings within the neighborhood.
In the lone accident, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta State Command, Mr. Rindom Kumven was as a result of burst tyre and loss of control on the part of the driver of the crashed SUV.
Kumven who described the accident as fatal, stated that out of the nine persons involved in the crash, three including two kids and an adult female died instantly while six make adults sustained severe injuries.
According to him, corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba where the injured were also said to be receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, 27 persons have been convicted, while three were cautioned and discharged by the FRSC for various traffic offenses ranging from driver’s license violation and over loading.
The Sector Commander warned motorists to avoid violating traffic rules and regulations, as the commission was very determined to restore sanity to Nigerian roads.
