2 female suicide bombers kill 9, injure 24 in Borno

No fewer than nine people were killed and 24 others injured on Monday when two female suicide bombers detonated explosives in Benisheikh, Borno State.
In a statement, the Army said that at least 24 people were injured when a number of female suicide bombers exploded their bombs when security forces stopped the girls to search them.
It put the ages of the bombers between 10 and 15 years, adding that security forces killed 15 alleged fighters from the Boko Haram armed group.
The Army commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured.
It called on Nigerians to be vigilant and more security conscious, especially during the Yuletide and New Year holidays.
Also yesterday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) warned the general public to be wary of the new antics by the Boko Haram to inflict harm on innocent Nigerians.
In a statement, the DHQ revealed that the antics currently used by the Boko Haram include crying and feigning pains and shouting to attract sympathy from the unsuspecting public.
“When a lot of people of goodwill gather to render help in the process, the sui-cide bomber detonates bombs which they conceal under their clothes. The recent suicide bombing in Damaturu is instructive.
“Similarly, suicide bombers used monetary incentives and other inducements, especially in crowded places to lure innocent citizens in order to cause colossal damage to both life and property. Yola, Adamawa State suicide incidents are fresh in our memories,” the statement issued by its spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar disclosed.
“The Defence Headquarters therefore advises citizens to be wary of such antics of the terrorists who are losing out in their former enclaves and are now desperate to re¬main relevant by using any means to perpetuate fear in the minds of the populace.
“The Defence Headquarters also warns citizens to be extra-vigilant and wary of terrorist’s malevolence in such places as parks, worship centres and recreation spots, particularly in this festive pe¬riod. Citizens are advised to report suspicious persons or objects to security agencies for prompt action,” the state¬ment further stressed.
