Who killed Abubakar Audu?

   Prince Abubakar Audu

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu is dead.

Audu died on Sunday, November 22, 2015, while in a clear lead in the elections which held on Saturday, 21.

The polls were later declared to be inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It’s not yet clear what caused the APC candidate’s death as while some are attributing it to a heart attack, yet others say he had two strokes in a short space of time.

“This is a tragedy. I just lost my boss. He did not make it despite the efforts of everybody here to revive him.  Everyone is crying here and I will call you later,” an aide told The Nation after the news broke.

A family source told Sahara Reporters, the platform which broke the news, that the late politician was vomiting blood before he died.

“He started vomiting blood after he returned from Lokoja. After a while he became unconscious and died around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning,” the source said.

“There is speculation of food poison or spiritual attack but no one can say for now. But his family confided in me that blood kept gushing out from his mouth,” another source supposedly told Daily Post.

Several conspiracy theories have arisen as to who killed Audu due to the suddenness and unexpectedness of his death.

Some of those theories are:

Black Magic: About 50% of Nigerians believe that Audu was killed through the use of “juju”, or “jazz” as it is now popularly called, by those who didn’t want him to occupy the office.

PDP: Some people believe that Audu was assassinated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when it became clear that he would defeat PDP candidate and incumbent governor, Idris Wada.

Bola Tinubu: Yet others believe that Audu was offed on the orders of the indefatigable leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu. The members of this group haven’t explained why Tinubu would want to kill his own party’s candidate.

In the end however, the only thing that truly took Abubakar Audu’s life is death.

Death is an end that must come to everyone and it’s a fate that no one can avoid, whether they have enemies or not.

Audu was 68-years-old, he had been a governor of his state and had worked in the banking sector for 25 years, so by any standard, he lived a full life.

The death of the would-be governor of Kogi State is an extremely sad occurrence but there is nothing new under the sun.

It’s time to put the conspiracy theories to rest and let sleeping dogs, and the dead, lie in peace.

Good night, Prince Abubakar Audu.
