The South Eastern States, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States are expected to participate in the Championship scheduled to hold between March and April 2016.
According to the Institution’s Sports Director and Coach of the UNN Team, Professor Jacob Onyechi (Ex-Nigeria International, popularly known as Teamber), the UNN is ready to host the highest Cricket Championship, East of the Niger for the second time. The School hosted the 2nd edition that featured Imo, Enugu and Anambra States; in the 2016 contests, all the 5 South East states will converge on the University of Nigeria Nsukka Cricket oval to slug it out.
The tournament’s coordinator, Emeka Igwilo confirmed the 6th Edition of the prestigious Chuma Anosike cup will unfold another Cricket Carnival more than what was witnessed in Government College, Umuahia, Abia State in March 2015. The 2016 edition is expected to commence with the T20 boom and climax into ODI encounters.
The sponsor of the competition, Bar. Chuma Anosike who was presented a Gold Medal last year to mark his 5 years of selfless service to humanity and for hosting the game in South East, says his dream of developing the youths and providing platform for their social integration cannot diminish. He stated that he is happy with the trend as the 6th edition will be the 3rd time all the States in the region are taking part in the championship that has come to stay.
Imo and Enugu States hosted the 1st and 2nd editions while Anambra and Ebonyi States followed thereafter. The 2015 finals completed the hosting circle for all the states of the region. This strategy was in line with the host’s promise to ensure the game was reactivated in all the states of the region. Wicket! Promises made and fulfilled.
