Traders threatened Anambra Govt,sying No Election, No Payment of Levies

                                               
Traders at the popular Abada Market, Onitsha, Anambra State  threatened that they would not pay for levies/taxes in their market until election is conducted to elect the executives of the market.Shouting their chairman Chief Paul Ibeneme Igirigi down when he addressed them in the early morning on the present condition of the market as it concerns their upcoming election and the need to pay for Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency, ANSEPA, levy that has been increased from N400 to N500, the traders vowed not to make the payment and to take to the streets if the election is not conducted before December.Addressing them, the chairman said, “the Government is going to conduct election in our market but they have not given us a date for the election”.“Again the N400 we have been paying to ANSEPA has been increased to N500 and I urge you to ensure you make the payment”, he pleaded.While he was still talking, shouts of “no, we no go gree until election is conducted”, rented the air.Reacting, Chiefs Achumu Gilbert and Columba Enwelemadu, traders in the market expressed dissatisfaction that the incumbent chairman Chief Igirigi has remained in office for over 10 years as if he is the only one meant for that office.“How can he be in office for over 10 years without considering the need for conduct of election for new person to succeed him.It is unfair and we commend the State Government for resolving to conduct election in the market but they should give us a date that will not exit December”.Three other traders, Chiefs Geoffrey C.I Okeke, Charles Okoye and Vincent Nwafor, commended the state Government for the coming election and urge it to ensure that only genuine traders would vote during the election.
